Figures, Tables and Equations

Figures, tables and equations should fit within the margins (up to 16 cm wide). If figures or tables are less than 16 cm wide they should either be aligned left or aligned right. Text may flow around figures and tables but a margin of 1 cm to the side of the figure or table must be maintained. Equations should be placed on a line by themselves, flushed to a left tab 1 cm from the left margin of the page and identified by an equation number. Number equations using parentheses flushed right (right tab at 14.5 cm from left margin) as shown below. There should be a 12 pt line space before and after equations.

a + b x c = d

Equations, figures and figure captions each have their own style tags. Styles are defined below:

Figures:

Left or right aligned to the margin. Line spacing of 20 pt before an after figure. Maintain a space of 1 cm between figure and any text that flows around it. Figure caption should be left aligned to the edge of the figure and immediately below the figure. Captions should begin with the words ‘Figure n:’ in boldface type. Figure captions should 7 point Arial italic with 11 point line spacing.

Tables:

Aligned left or aligned right to the margin. Line spacing of 20 pt before and after figure. Maintain a space of 1 cm between figure and any text that flows around it. Figure caption should be aligned left to the edge of the figure and immediately above the figure. Caption should begin with the words ‘Figure n:’ in boldface type. Figure captions should 7 point Arial with 11 point line spacing. Figure Text should be 9 point Arial with line spacing set to 11 points. Column headings should be in boldface type and centred within the column. Text in tables should be left justified and numbers should be decimal point justified.

Equations:

Equations should be aligned left to a tab placed 1 cm from the left hand page margin. The base font of the equation should be Times New Roman 9 point. Each equation should be identified by an equation number that is aligned right to a right tab placed 14.5 cm from the left hand page margin. Equation numbers should be integers starting at 1 and increasing sequentially through the paper.
